Just the introduction of the CBT concept arouses the interest of the locals in Solomon Islands, as the main current tourist activity is centered on a “agency tourism”, hotels, travel packages and activities that bear little relation to the local community, thereby leaving behind what is really important and that makes the difference of the place, their culture, their heritage and their way of life.
It is also true that there is, to a lesser extent, bid more linked to sustainability, eco-lodges and activities close to nature. But in this case, there are resources, but not the tools to empower them. That is why the minimum contribution is a breakthrough in the country. When local hear talk about the STARS project, the objectives and the general idea, show genuine interest and even want to adopt for their communities.
Follow the project, we have been able to work mainly on hiking creation, virtually from scratch. We explored places with high potential, with the help of the communities in the area, with the aim of opening the doors to amazing places with people proud of its roots, happy to show their lives through paths to future visitors to the Islands. For them, a simple job of data collection, mapping, photographs, descriptions … in short, the development of a product, is a real gift that begin to give shape and meaning to their CBT, placing value on the real meaning that keep the Islands.
